Buenos Aires to Sydney

A return flight is not usually much "to write home about" as they say, but this one had a few noteworthy bits.

Check-in, etc, no problems. Normal waiting around with not much to do.

A VERY distressed Australian trying to go down the single-direction escalator claiming that Argentinian Immigration hadn't given back her passport and boarding pass. No unsecured passage back downstairs to immigration and no airport staff around speaking English. A STRESS++ situation. I suggested to Anton that this would be an excellent situation for practicing his Spanish. "Haven't done this in class yet". Same old line again. Not sure what happened in the end, but we saw her on the boarding queue.

Later on, a helpful Aerolineas boarding person was concerned when she noticed us walking around the lounge area an hour before departure - "You must over there be ready to board now". "Um....we'll be OK thanks." At least there was no bookshop in the airport departure area as per our last visit to Mumbai selling "The 10 Worst Airline Disasters" out the front.

The return trip was a daylight trip the whole way - leaving at 8:30 a.m. Friday and arriving in Sydney at 11:30a.m. Saturday. Seeing as the flight does a circle towards Antarctica, we got seats on the left side in case we got to see anything. A good idea. Whilst not the continent itself, got to see some of the ice drifts and a feel for the extent of what's further south. Fascinating

As per the flight to BA, an old A340. Economy class, reasonably comfortable, plenty of legroom, food, service, etc all OK. Played cards and board games, read books, slept, chatted. Flight was fine.

Arrival in Sydney. Normal - no big delay, no big queues, pretty much straight through. Only problem was Anton can't use his electronic passport because he was under 16.....next time.

Off to get our backpacks from luggage......waiting.......waiting......there's us, a few others, and the pilot. Eventually we found out our bags got left in BA, but it will arrive on the next flight - 4 days time. Given that the pilot flies that plane home, his bag's probably safer left in BA. Our's? We can wait. No problema.

So.....

The holiday? Fantastic.
Argentina? Fantastic.
Aerolineas/the flight(s)? Fine
Accomodation? Fine
Any (real) problems? No
Would we go back? Tomorrow (if possible).
Would we stay longer? Definitely.

....till next time....
